As long-time Food Bank for New York City supporters, Mario and his wife, Susi, celebrated the city’s major hunger-relief organization at the annual Can Do Awards Dinner last week. Last year Mario and Susi were named Can Do Awards honorees, and on April 9th, they served as the 2014 Honorary Chairs. Here are some amazing highlights from an evening which raised money to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs!

Food Bank for New York City raised $2.1 million for hunger relief at the
star-studded Can Do Awards Dinner on April 9th!!

More than 600 people came out to support Food Bank, including these notable attendees:
Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Stipe, Rachael Ray, Ted Allen, Lauren Bush, Josh Charles,
David Burke, Katie Lee & Selita Ebanks!

Mario Batali, Tom Colicchio and David Chang raised $300,000 for their Three Castrati Dinner,
a special meal prepared by the chefs in two very lucky bidders' homes!

Legendary multi-Grammy Award-winning musician and singer, Aaron Neville,
the evening’s special musical guest, performed such classics as
“Stand By Me,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

“I applaud our honorees for their passion, their compassion and their
extraordinary service to others. We could not do what we do without the support
of each of you, who continuously prove, I ‘Can Do.’”
- Margarette Purvis, President and CEO of Food Bank For New York City

Mario's pal and Can Do Honoree, Dorothea Bongiovi, was honored for her longstanding
dedication to fighting hunger, encouraging those around her to serve, and giving those
in need a helping hand as the driving force behind JBJ Soul Kitchen.
